There are three ways to sell a product in Centara with each of these described below:
Scanning the Item
The simplest way to sell a product is to scan it's bar code with a bar code scanner. A successful scan will result in the product being sold and displayed as such in the Journal window (#12) .
Using buttons on a menu
Another easy way to sell is when a button on a menu has been defined to sell an item from a Menu button area (#5). As with scanning a bar code, pressing the relevant button will sell the product and display the result in the Journal window.
The menu buttons that sell products will show a little counter at the bottom left hand corner showing how many times that product has been added to the current sales transaction.
A button on a sales menu having an arrow in the lower right corner indicates that the button will open a defined sub menu, giving the possibility to create a well structured set of menus.
Enter product id
When an item is not on a sales button or the bar code is not working, you can simply key in the product id using the numeric pad and press the PLU button.
The numeric pad combined with the scanner or sales buttons can be useful if you need to make quantity sales. Instead of scanning each item or pressing a sales button several times to indicate multiple sales of the same item, you can enter the quantity on the numeric pad before selling the product.
Example:
Key in the quantity required
Sell the product
This is sold with a quantity of three and the total price of the line is displayed as shown below:
Had these three items been sold individually, without using the numeric pad to indicate the quantity, then the same sale would appear as follows:
The numeric pad can also be used to key in both the quantity and item number at once. In this case the procedure would be as follows:
Example:
Key in the quantity required
Press the * button on the pad
Key in the item numbered
This will be displayed as in the below figure:
Press the PLU button.
You can search for an item by pressing the Item lookup button on the main menu, which will show the item search screen.
Key into the item search field either the the id of the product or it's description and press the Search button to the right of the search field. The search screen will be visible until Close button is pressed.
The search field looks either to the item number or the description of the item.
Pressing the blue Sell button in the product row will add the product to the sales transaction.
Return item is used when a customer brings in goods he wants to return or exchange.
For this operation Centara must be put in a return mode by pressing the Return item button.
The return mode is a toggle mode, so pressing the Return item button twice in a row, will result in it being turned off. When Centara is in return mode a red minus is displayed in the left hand side of the Information message panel (#2).
When the return mode is toggled on, the text “Next sale is RETURN!” and a red square is displayed in the message area. As soon as an item is sold or a key is pressed, Centara exits the return mode and these indications disappears. The below figure shows how the Journal window looks after this.
It is also possible to have the till constantly in return mode, which would mean not having to press the Return item button each time. This is done by opening up the Quick menu and then pressing the Toggle Item Return mode button. This will place Centara in return mode. To return to normal sales mode all that is needed is to press the Toggle Item Return mode button again.
It is possible to change the price of an item after it has been sold. This is done using the Post price override button on the journal menu. First select the item in the journal window whose price should be changed. A new window pops up and the new price can be input.
When you have finished, press OK and the new price will be applied.
Note this will have no affect on the default price of this item.
When using the discount buttons make sure that you have selected the item or items that should get the discount. No selection means you will discount all items in the sale.
You have a mixture of fixed and open discounts that can be applied.
