Sign on
As soon as the workstation is started, the following sign on screen appears:
While this screen is being displayed, no functions can be carried out at the workstation. The user should enter his id number and press the OK button. The OK and Clear buttons are unavailable whilst nothing has been keyed in.
The Clear button aborts the sign on process and re-displays the sign on screen.
The Delete button deletes input that the user has made.
A sign on can also be carried out by swiping or reading a bar code, magnetic or RFID code from an employee card. When this is used, password entry is bypassed. The available options used for signing on / off are determined as part of setting up the store parameters.
If an incorrect id/password pair is supplied, an error message will replace the text Operator id, and the operator will be given the option to repeat the sign on.
When the operator is signed on, the log on screen can be made to reappear by pressing the current operator name (usually located in the left bottom corner of the screen).
Sign off
There are a number of ways to sign off from Centara workstation:
Press the current operator name which in normal idle transaction mode appears at the bottom left hand side of the screen, as mentioned above.
Press a button that has been configured to execute the sign off macro.
The workstation may be set to automatically sign off if there is no action on the workstation for some prefixed time. This option is used to prevent unauthorized usage of the workstation. The default sign off time is 5 minutes, but can be changed per workstation to suit the retail environment.
Transactions per workstation are bound to operators. This means that if an operator A signs off from an active transaction, operator B can in the meantime sign in and complete a fresh transaction. Operator A can then sign in again to complete his/her transaction.
Operator access rights
The permission to run workstation functions are assigned to each operator. For instance, it may be the case that only supervisors are allowed to do a return transaction. When a new operator signs on, access rights are assigned in accordingly.
