Hardware
The preferred way of hardware connectivity is via OPOS drivers. They ensure seamless communication, not only when Centara pushes things out each device, but also in a way that devices can reliably report their health state back to Centara.
Although OPOS in old technology, it is tried and tested technology that we have found that works and gives access to all features and control required for a POS system. Printing via windows printer driver is an optional solution but has serious drawbacks for cash drawer control in addition to the printout quality. Also it requires a lot of printer properties tweaking per POS.
When appropriate OPOS drivers have been installed on the POS machines, each device is assigned a Device ID which is all Centara needs to communicate with the device in a standardized manner.
POS hardware configuration is done in Centara server. Since POS hardware is often the same within a store or organization, the common method is to create hardware profiles which can then be assigned to a store or group of stores.
